Bummers...

Looks like the Gators are going to lose or have lost already. I turned the game off because, I hate watching us lose. lol I'm a little too passionate.

We also got a yucky review in iTunes. And that's okay. Because you can't please everyone. I would like to touch on the comments made however.

First and foremost, I would like to state to everyone that we are experts. We're experts of the natural family living of OUR family. Besides, we never said we were experts, we're just trying to do our best! The podcast is about sharing the things that we have learned so that everyone from the crunchiest to the most mainstream can get something out of it.

I truly am sorry if you can't see past the fact that I covered my first child with a blanket when I was 19 years old and nursing and in mixed company. I was just learning how to do it and I really didn't want my father in law seeing my breast.

Also, yes, I do shop at Walmart. I am not a total separatist crunchanaut. I can't do it. Not be a stay at home mom and not get a few things from Walmart. And if that drives you away from the podcast then I'm sorry.

I hate Walmart...but I won't buy Rice Milk for $4 a half gallon when I can get it for $2.75 Unless I want to put my kids in public school and daycare...and that would be silly.

so anyways. yuck.

I'm going now to make some yummy stir fry with noodles and egg rolls! Sounds like a good ending to a roller coaster day.

Thanks for listening!

Episode #014: Show Notes

Alright, so I was really tired when I recorded this and had my algebra midterm on the brain. Sorry if it was a bit scatterbrain-ish-like. :)

I need a Waldorf Doll for Nineveh and a few playsilks.

Any of you listeners that might make dolls or know of any place that might have some on sale or anyone want to sell one, PLEASE let me know. We're trying to be conservative this Christmas and I was really looking at the Sweetheart Toddler Doll and would like to stay around that price. I've found a 13 inch doll for 42. Anyone got anything else?

I need 4 playsilks too! For stocking stuffers. If anyone carries these and would like free advertising let me know if we can barter.

TIA!

A thread over at the consumerist.
Be careful..a lot of your organic coop stuff might not even be local produce....or even American. Research it.

We went out to a farm today and picked pecans, got okra straight from the garden and some eggs..right out from the chickens rears. Sweet haul for only $10.

Our healthy recipe of the week:

Mahvelous Millet Loaf

1 cup millet
2 1/2 cups of water or veggie broth
1 cup finely chopped onions
1 cup finely chopped or shredded carrots
1 cup finely diced celery
Salt to taste or use Bragg's aminos

1 cup chopped nuts...walnuts, pistachios, cashews or sunflower seeds

1. Oil a large loaf pan.
2. Rinse the millet well and place it in a large saucepan along with the water, onions, carrots, celery, salt, garlic, and thyme. Bring to a boil.
3. Cover and reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer for 30 minutes.
4. Remove from the heat and let stand 10 minutes. Stir in the oil and nuts or seeds and mix well. Spoon the mixture into the prepared loaf pan, packing it down firmly. Hoorah WaterBirth

Water births 'a valuable alternative' to normal delivery
Source:

European Journal of Obstetrics and Reproductive Biology 2007; 134: 37-43

Comparing maternal and fetal outcomes with water births versus conventional delivery.

MedWire News: Women who choose a water birth tend to have quicker, less painful labors and do not put themselves or their babies at increased risk for infection or other complications.

The findings come from a prospective observational study involving 368 pregnant women. All had a low risk for obstetric and maternal complications and were deemed eligible for a water birth.

In the event, 89 delivered their babies in the pool, 133 used the pool temporarily but had a conventional birth, and 146 delivered spontaneously without immersion.

The study authors, led by Rosanna Zanetti-Daellenbach (Women's University Hospital, Basel, Switzerland), compared the three groups with respect to obstetric outcomes.

They found no differences in rates of maternal or neonatal infection or laboratory parameters. Fetal outcomes were also comparable among the groups, with no differences in Apgar scores, blood pH, and admission to intensive care.

Some maternal outcomes differed, however, with the water-birth group having significantly less use of analgesia, shorter first and second stages of labor, and lower rates of episiotomy.

"Water birth is a valuable alternative to traditional delivery," say the authors. "A careful selection of a low-risk collective is essential to minimize potential risks."
