Kentucky!

So James and I will be recording a new podcast here in Beautiful Kentucky. I'm sorry it didn't get taken care of on Wednesday. It's kinda crazy with tons of grandparents etc.

We did meet an ultra cool owner of the Green Apple Natural Food store here in Elizabethtown. What a great store and wonderful asset to this community!

Mom of the Week: Amanda

Get to know our MOTW this week; Amanda:

I'm a wife to my dearest and best friend Matthew and am a stay-at-home mom to my wonderful children Allysha and Jonathan. As I ponder my life I see that I have been so blessed. We have a wonderful family and a great home. We are a bible believing family and try to be what the Lord would have us to be.

I try to be as natural as possible while staying without our budget which at times can be somewhat daunting. My journey into this started in 2001 when I got so sick, even the meds wouldn't help. The only thing the doctor's could prescribe me was over $100 and being a single mom at the time, I simply could not afford it. I approached a fellow co-worker whom everyone knew to be a "natural nut". She introduced me to Echinacea and Myrrh and thank the Lord my fever broke and my infection passed. Next we moved on to ear candles. I was hooked. Ever since then I try to find natural remedies for me and my family, while still using some western medicine, although now not nearly as much. We firmly believe in prevention.

I have journeyed on to study aromatherapy briefly and hope to one day have more education in not only that, but in herbalism. I'm currently thinking of writing books to teach children about herbs while making the reading material fun and easy to understand.

Someday we hope to homestead "out in the middle of nowhere" but for now we're doing our best where we are now to plant as many herbs and medicinal plants as possible while teaching our children about living off the land and nature itself.

A BIG thanks needs to go out to Barefoot Moms for doing the segment on cleaning with vinegar and baking soda. We were using other natural products and while they were good products, they are currently going up in price which made this was a GREAT alternative. Not only is it super cheap but it makes everything sparkle.

As far as the crunchy factor, we're in there somewhere. LOL! We use our own cloth shopping bags, cloth napkins and towels and try to eat organic. We believe in using midwifery care for pregnancy over anything else. We co-sleep, use slings, use Natural Family Planning, and do not vaccinate. We're also a homeschooling family and have been officially doing this for 4 full years and we're moving into our 5th year. It's one of the most wonderful things in the world.
