New cover art & a WAHM-ware
Melanie at Messages in the Sand graciously created this awesome message for us (which we've also cropped for use as our cover art).
Please take a few minutes and check out her website: http://www.messagesinthesand.net/. Here is her bio:
Short Bio:
My name is Melanie. I am a 31 year old SAHM from Statesboro, GA. I have two children: Nathan (4) and Grace (18 mos.). Nathan was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Diorder when he was about 2.5 and Grace is very sleep challenged and has been since she was a few weeks old. Needless to say, I think I'm finished having kids. *giggle It will be 6 years on July 28th for me and my husband, Jon. He is 30 and a great husband and father!
What I do:
Customized Sand Messages. My business is called "Messages in the Sand".
Why I do what I do:
A couple of years ago, someone told me about a lady who did this. I was searching for a Valentine's present for my hubby and I thought "what an awesome idea!" However, as I looked more into it, it was realized that she had taken one really beautiful picture and would use it for all her pics by merging this picture with the sand message picture. For me personally, I didn't like that. It just didn't feel authentic to me. It then dawned on me that I am only an hour away from the beach and I could do one myself! Needless to say, my husband loved it and just thought it was the best gift ever. A couple of months ago, I was trying to come up with a WAHM business of my own and decided to offer this service and give people the opportunity to give a unique personal gift that will last a lifetime. Each picture is unique and not merged. Sometimes I can even get a few seagulls to cooperate for me! What I love about it:Well first off, I love my "office"! The beach is so beautiful and calming to me so I can't complain other than I wish I lived there. But maybe oneday! LOL Second, I love that it gives others the opportunity to give a unique gift and the possibilities are endless. You can give one for a birthday, anniversary, Valentines, etc. You can announce you're pregnant or propose...I can't wait to do one of these. There's much more you can do or say but it's just too long to list but you get the idea! Third, it makes me feel good to be able to earn some money of my own. And the last thing that I love is when the client tells me how much they love the picture and how much the person who received it loved it. It really makes me feel good and confident that I'm offering a service that people really appreciate and love."
Thanks again Melanie!
(BTW, this was posted by Nadine's husband, James. I'm the primary producer of the podcast and I really enjoy helping the BFMs spread their natural living message.)

Nadine's cupboard: Before and After
Sorry it has taken me so long to post these pictures. If you haven't gotten an idea of how crazy we've been lately in our last episode, I'll be posting later about what happened this week. I'm working on editing a new episode tonight as well!
Before the research for epidsode #003 "Toxic Chemicals in Your Cupboard"
And after: (now I've found Ecover to work excellent for dishwasher detergent so there's a box of that now and seventh generation dishsoap..)

Mother & Child Photography ~Molly~
Hello all you beautiful Mommas out there! I was about to post a picture of Asa and I together when I had the thought: how great would it be to see other pictures of Mommas and their beautiful kiddos! I am a photography lover and I can never see enough pictures! So please share your simple pictures, your artsy pictures, your mommy & baby, mommy & kiddo, pictures! We'd love to see them!
Until then... here's one more picture of Nadine and I I found! This one dates back to the summer of 1998!

MOM OF THE WEEK!
Our very first mom of the week is
Cate:
My name is Cate, and I am a full-time graduate student working on a research grant which allows me to be a WOHM mom 2 days a week, and a SAHM the rest of the time. I blog as "The Hot Librarian" at http://hotlibrariansarentamyth.blogspot.com. I started the blog not anticipating pregnancy, but before we knew it our daughter Eva was on her way! Eva is 8 months old now, and the blog has evolved to charting my journey through motherhood as I try to be the best mom I can and live in an environmentally friendly way. We use cloth diapers, and I've taken baby steps into mama cloth. We buy as much organic and local produce as we can, and I frequently prepare vegan meals. We recycle and compost, try to buy used and recycled goods, and choose reusable options for napkins and paper towels. Thanks to Nadine and Molly's podcast, we now clean our house with vinegar - and what a difference! For me, the most important message to spread is that nobody's perfect, and it's okay if you can't be 100% SuperCrunchyMom all the time. The key is to do what you can and what works for your family. It's better to do just a little bit than nothing at all because every little change we make has a positive impact on our children and our earth.
Thanks for listening to BFM, Cate!

A day in the life of Nadine
So, I saw a Mama post about taking pictures of what they do all day....a day in the life...so I think I might do that tomorrow! Let you all know what I do everyday. Get ready for some exciting stuff. **that was dripping with sarcasm**
I FOUND SOME DISHWASHER DETERGENT THAT WORKS!!!!!!!!! ECOVER! I bought it at our local natural foods store Native Sun. I put some vinegar in the jetdry holder and use the Ecover and it works FABULOUS!
James and I have been thinking about using cloth bags for when we go to the store. We had a Mama comment that in Germany they don't give you free bags!! I think that's a great idea. I personally get so sick of seeing the plastic bags in the ditch on the way home. Yuck! Although I do reuse mine as trash can liners...but I don't need that many!!
I've read that a lot of mamas have bought them at Target, some WalMarts sell them, their natural food stores, or you could even try cheaptotes.com
Now I must search for some cloth napkins. I might just buy a pack of those cute colored washcloths at Target and use those.
I wanted to also highlight my dear friends Shea and Mandy! I miss them. Mandy moved to Colorodo and then to Seattle. She is largely responsible for my cloth diapering habit...she loaned me a TON of fitteds, some wool, a bunch of miscellaneous covers.
Shea was such a good mama! (so was Mandy...:) She always tells her kids to make good choices...I use it now! She is a vegetarian always has good food to eat in her house....and more when Mandy brought some over...It was fun to just have fellowship with other mamas who were likeminded, we're all doulas, all pregnant at the same time, breastfeeding, cloth diapering, trying to do our best for our families.
After I had Malachi I didn't really get to see them much...and for that I am very sad. Then they all moved away. :( Shea went to Orlando........... here I am alone again. lol.
Just wanted to let you guys know I miss you.
James is searching for a new car. (used) his took a poo on him. I really want him to get a Jetta. My favorite car of all time.
While I'd like to sit here and eat my Sabra hummus all day and type...I really need to make some lunch for my sweet kiddos.
