Camp Lejeune Water Contamination

I never had heard about this until someone emailed me about it. Please read the information and send it along to anyone you may know who might have lived in this area during these years. Thank you.

http://www.tftptf.com/

This is the email that I received:

Hi. I read this article of yours (below) & was wondering if you have heard of the Camp Lejeune water contamination that took place for 30 YEARS (1957-1987)?? Many babies died (it is said there were so many babies dying that they had to put them in mass graves & could not tell their parents exactly where they were buried, but rather an area of about 15 feet where their baby was buried) many were born w/birth defects (myself included) & have ongoing health issues (also myself), and/or developed various different kinds of cancer, & died as children, teens, or adults. There were also many adults horribly effected, if they have even been fortunate to survive their horrific diseases. It is said that as many as 1 MILLION people were exposed, most of which still have no idea.
If you would like any more info and/or would like to help inform people of what may have happened to them at Camp Lejeune, PLEASE check out the info below in my signature. It has been an uphill battle that some of the victims have been working tirelessly for the past 11 years trying to inform the victims of this horible tragedy, yet they have hit so many brick walls, as with anything that deals w/the government. I personally had a reporter come to my house, write a story, come BACK to take pictures of me & my family, only to say w/no explanation they will NOT be running the story after she was SOOO enthusiastic!!! She never returned my calls to try to get an explanation either. I have also written to every newspaper & radio station in Illinois (where I live), & talk show I could find contact information for, w/out getting a single response. People care more about what the hottest fashion trends are but don't care that 1 MILLION people have been exposed to these horrific chemicals?!?!? It is very disheartening & you are one of my last hopes to try to get the info out.

Thank you Erica for bringing this to our attention.

Orgasmic Birth

http://www.orgasmicbirth.com/

This is a great video. It seems a little strange to me, I don't doubt that some people find labor pleasurable, however I know it hurts. The first few bits of this 80+ minute video are the only true "orgasm" like instances. The rest of it is just amazing. I highly recommend it to any pregnant mama!

User Friendly Vaccine Schedule

I've recently been reading a few things about vaccines and here is an article of interest:

Controversy

and another ARTICLE about user friendly vaccines scheduling.

Dr. Miller recommends:

    1. No vaccinations until a child is two years old.
    2. No vaccines that contain thimerosal (mercury).
    3. No live virus vaccines (except for smallpox, should it recur).
    4. These vaccines, to be given one at a time, every six months, beginning at age 2:
      1. Pertussis (acellular, not whole cell)
      2. Diphtheria
      3. Tetanus
      4. Polio (the Salk vaccine, cultured in human cells)

So, it's been awhile.

I've decided to start putting up more articles and things that I come across. We've had a busy year here with James getting out of the Navy. He's almost a full fledged police officer now so it's been good times. I've been teaching childbirth classes and doula-ing and couldn't not share info with you guys any longer. Please feel free to email me any info or writings that you may have and I will post them here. It's good to be back!

Dude, Ricki Lake is Ricki-Cool

Great article on homebirth vs. ACOG

US Maternal Death Rate is a JOKE

UGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.

there was an AWESOME article in the newest Mothering magazine(March-April 2008) by Ina May Gaskin about our botched death certificate writing, statisticians for maternal death.

She stated that a lot of problems in America with maternal death are due to lack of visits from caregivers at home. With a homebirth the midwifery team comes to see you several times...and in other countries when you get sent home from the hospital they have visiting nurses etc. Here the insurance companies push you out and that's it.

She states that these visits "are not luxuries but necessities for every new mother."

The biggest thing that got me is the fact that maternal deaths are basically "covered up". In the UK every three years they publish a study citing the reasons Why Mothers Die...that's what it's called too and you can pick it up in any book store (400 pages). IT is data from every maternal death. In the US, like I said before, maternal deaths are swept under the rug. We get a single statistic every year of the number of women who die 42 days after giving birth. "comes with no details, no ID of important trends, no analysis, no recommendations" Basically, we have a FALSE sense of security about maternal death.

The published maternal death rate isn't even accurate. The article states that the actual death rate is probably as much as three times greater than the number officially published!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michigan's rate is supposedly 7.6 deaths per 100,000 and after it was studied out further it should really be 18 per 100,000.

The MD who did the MI study says that it is extremely likely that other states underestimate their rates as well.

A reason for this is that all of the states don't use the same death certificate, only 21 ask about pregnancy.

You might be asking why this is important...well Ina May states it like this: If a woman hemmoraghed due to postpartum issues and died in the OR or ICU and the state didn't ask that question on the form, then she would have died due to hemorrhage not referred to pregnancy and then when it gets shoved through statistics...it's not included with the "maternal" portion. See why this is a BIG deal?

"A recent article in a major obstetrical journal revealed a rate of underreporting of maternal death in Massachusetts of 93 %"

There are other huge problems so you should get your hands on this article.

Here's another crazy thing: "The rate of maternal death for black women in the US for 2004 was 34.7 deaths per 100,000 (remember this was probably higher than reported). Most countries with rates that high are seeking help from international agencies."

"At least 29 other countries have maternal death rates lower than we do in the US" that's only based on our skewed statistics...that are underreported.

So stinking sad.

Vaccine Companies and Manslaughter

Hot Dog. :(

A really funny story about scare tactics...

So, we have decided to put Lydia in public school. I needed to take her to her pediatrician to get the yellow sheet of paper that says she's healthy enough to go to school. While there this is what I got:

(we did have her fully vaccinated when she was little due to lack of knowledge.)

Doctor: "We are now giving them chicken pox boosters."

Me: "You know we researched the chicken pox vaccine and decided not to have our youngest get it. I think we'd rather just have the kids get the chicken pox. So, we'll pass for the booster. Thank you."

Doctor: Weird look.

Doctor: "We recommend getting the Hepatitis A vaccine. Mostly for kids in day care, but think of the worst case scenario, we could have a natural disaster and there could be feces all over the place."

Me: "I'll pass on that one too."

Doctor: "You'll have to think about Gardasil in a few years. This is how I rationalized it for my daughter; If she ever got raped it's one less thing we have to worry about it."

Me: Thinking in my head, "You live in a much more scary world than I doctor, perhaps you should also give us the AIDS vaccine, the cancer vaccine, the fall down and skin my knee vaccine, etc...and so on"

I love scare tactics.

Mad Props to J-Lo

Sounds like a vaginal delivery to me:

NEW YORK (AP) Jennifer Lopez is "thrilled" to be a mom.

That's what her manager, Simon Fields, tells The Associated Press. Fields says Lopez gave birth to twins just after midnight this morning at a Long Island, New York, hospital.

The first to arrive was a girl, weighing 5 pounds, 7 ounces. The boy came about 15 minutes later, weighing 6 pounds even.

These are the first children for Lopez. They are the third and fourth for her husband, Marc Anthony.

Why Vaccines Are Not Safe.

What do you think?

US Infant Mortality Rate

"According to “The CIA World Factbook,” Singapore led the world with an infant mortality rate of 2.30 per 1,000 live births, followed by Sweden with a rate of 2.76 and Japan at 2.80. The United States’ rate of 6.37 ranked just 37th, behind South Korea and Cuba and just ahead of Croatia. The highest mortality rate was in Angola, where the rate is 184.44 deaths for every 1,000 births.

“The fact that we have the second-worst infant mortality rate in the developed world is a statistic that I think people need to know about,” she said. “We are the richest country in the world and the technology that we have is amazing today. Women in their 40s and even in their 50s can get pregnant today and carry children and deliver, babies are living at 23 weeks gestation. It’s amazing the strides we’ve made. But in that process, we’ve lost normal birth.” -ARTICLE

"The CIA World Factbook estimates the infant mortality rate in the United States is now comparable to Croatia, Lithuania and Taiwan. Most analysts currently rank the United States 28th in the world in infant mortality, far behind other industrialized nations such as Sweden, France, Japan and Germany. " -ARTICLE

"The USA has an infant mortality rate of 5 per 1,000, the same as Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Malta. Of 33 developed countries, America is just above Latvia, the bottom of the group."

The Barefoot Moms Officially Endorse Ron Paul for President!

At first I was hesitant to be politically minded here. However, I can no longer NOT be. This is important. I would dare say the future of Natural Family Living depends on the values and ideas that Dr. Ron Paul holds.

Here are a few reasons why we will be voting for Ron Paul

  • He opposes the FDA's move for greater control over nutrients and vitamins, and the directives of the UN's World Food Code (CODEX).

  • He authored the Health Freedom Protection Act, H.R. 2117, to ensure Americans have access to uncensored information about supplements and natural remedies.

  • He supports the Access to Medical Treatment Act, H.R. 2717, which expands the ability of Americans to use alternative medicine and new treatments.

  • He opposes forced vaccinations and mental health screenings of American citizens.
Dr. Paul supports:

  • Making all medical expenses tax deductible.
  • Eliminating federal regulations that discourage small businesses from providing coverage.
  • Allowing you to use supplements and vitamins to stay healthy.

"We must stop federal government interfence with our freedom to choose what we eat and how we take care of our health." -Ron Paul

Sounds a lot like another leader whom we admire; "If people let the government decide what food they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in a sorry state as are the souls who live in tyranny." -Thomas Jefferson

A little background info:

He is serving in his 10th term in the U.S. House. Dr. Paul has delivered over 4,000 babies as an OB/GYN. He served his country as a Flight Surgeon in the Air Force and the Air National Guard. Ron has been married to his wife Carol for 50 years. They have five children, 18 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. As a hobby, he grows organic tomatoes.

His voting record:

Never voted for the Iraq War.

Never voted for an unbalanced budget.

Never voted to increase power to the executive branch.

Never voted to restrict our freedoms.

Voted against the Patriot Act.

Voted against regulating the internet.

Voted against reinstating a military draft.

Votes to preserve the Constitution.

Votes to lower healthcare costs.

Votes to end the war on drugs.

Votes to protect civil liberties.

Eli Stone Vaccine Drama

If you read the caption under the picture, it says, "The title character on Eli Stone successfully argues in court that a vaccine containing mercury causes autism. " Actually he argued that a preservative not mercury, in the vaccine possibly caused her son to become autistic. It was a great show. I would recommend watching it even if it wasn't a true story.

Information regarding vaccinations from a listener!

Thank you for this information LW!

"This was forwarded to me by Dr. Sherri Tenpenny regarding some new
research on C-reactive protein levels in vaccinated infants. -

Evidence of serious health consequences was recently confirmed in the
Journal of Pediatrics in which CRP levels were measured after
vaccination. CRP, short for C-reactive protein, is a blood marker
indicating a heightened state of inflammation throughout the body.

The study involved infants in a neonatal intensive care unit who were
given two or more vaccines on the same day. A separate group of
infants were given one shot at a time, every three days. The vaccines
administered were DTaP, Hib, polio [IPV], hepatitis B and Prevnar.
The findings were disturbing:

· An abnormally elevated CRP occurred in 85 percent of
infants who received simultaneous vaccines and nearly 70 percent of
infants who received the shots one at a time.

· Gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) and severe intraventricular
hemorrhage (bleeding in the brain) also occurred in infants who
received multiple vaccines at the same time.

· Cardiorespiratory events (stopped breathing) occurred in 16
percent of all infants within 48 hours after receiving the vaccines.

· Infants who received DTaP, Prevnar and Hib as single
injections experienced the largest number of cardiorespiratory events
overall.

REF: Pourcyrous, M., et al. Primary Immunization of Premature
Infants with Gestational Age <35 Weeks. J of Pediatrics, Vol. 51,
Issue 2, Pages 167-172. August, 2007.

There are further concerns about elevated CRP levels. It was found in
a study of 62 children who were part of the Diabetes Autoimmunity
Study that when infants and young children have an elevated CRP
level, they have an increased risk of developing Type 1 (insulin-
dependent) diabetes in childhood. REF: Chase HP, et al. Elevated C-
reactive protein levels in the development of type 1 diabetes.

14 Ways You Can Eat Healthy On a Budget!

Thank Dr. Mercola for these helpful tips!

Here are the 14 top tips you need to know to find healthy food, even on a tight budget:

1. Choose local foods over organic foods.

2. If all that’s available or affordable is fresh, conventionally grown produce, buy it, wash it well at home, and eat it.

3. Look for local farms and food coops offering raw dairy products, eggs, produce, and grass-fed meat. This will allow you to cut out the middleman and save money. Buying in large quantities, such as a side of grass-fed beef, can also save you money in the long run as long as you have room to freeze it (and you consume it before it goes bad).

4. Skip prepared or pre-cut foods, which can cost up to double the amount as the unprepared versions.

5. Plan your meals ahead of time (including cooking large batches and freezing some for later) so you don’t splurge on expensive, unhealthy fast-food at the last minute.

6. Pass on junk foods like potato chips, soda, cookies, candy, and other snacks. These are a complete waste of money.

7. Buy lots of fresh veggies, they’re usually less expensive than canned versions (just make sure you use them before they go bad).

8. Only buy what you need. Keep track of what’s in your pantry so you don’t double-up on foods unnecessarily.

9. Clip coupons and use them when you can (but don’t buy something unhealthy just because it’s on sale).

10. Watch the register when you check out of the grocery store. They often ring up wrong prices, at your expense.

11. Shop with a calculator so you can determine if it’s really a better deal to buy something in bulk.

12. Watch weekly specials, and be aware of what’s really a good price. You can often find organic produce on sale for less than conventional produce if you know what prices to watch for.

13. If you have the space, grow your own fresh veggies such as greens, broccoli, tomatoes, cucumbers, string beans, etc.

14. Remember this rule of thumb: Fresh food is always better than frozen, but frozen is better than canned.

How to wash your produce.

Toy Removed for Asbestos!

WASHINGTON (AP) — Four days before Christmas, Planet Toys Inc. wants stores to remove the company's CSI Fingerprint Examination Kit from their shelves after some tests had revealed samples of asbestos included in the kits.

The New York toy manufacturer sent a "stop sale" notice Friday, according to a statement on the company's Web site saying an investigation is under way into whether the kits pose a health threat to anyone using them.

The announcement comes about three weeks after the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit advocacy group, called on stores to remove the toys from their shelves. Lab studies from an asbestos awareness organization showed asbestos in some samples of the kit's fingerprint dust.

A spokesman with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which regulates product safety, said the federal agency is investigating the claims but could not say whether an official recall would be issued for the toy.

"CPSC is aware that certain retailers have begun pulling this product off store shelves and CPSC is investigating whether there is asbestos within the product that can harm children," spokesman Scott Wolfson said.

Walgreens stores removed the toy kits from their shelves Wednesday and is conducting its own investigation, said spokeswoman Carol Hively. "It's a temporary measure while we see for ourselves what the test shows," she said.

Officials at Planet Toys had no immediate comment.

The Navy made me do it...

This post is from James. Click the title and you can see the actual instruction. We thought that we were in the clear considering we all had the gastrointestinal flu and then some sinus issues when they started the flu shot crap. Because you can't have it when you're sick. They put him on the "delinquent list" and here's what happened....(and for the record, he did feel like crap awhile)

Well, actually there's an instruction (basically like a military rule) that requires ALL members of ALL branches to be vaccinated.

I reluctantly received my flu vaccine today. I'll post again if I start feeling like I'm coming down with something (though the info sheet provided to me indicated that it would be unrelated to the vaccine if I do).

Flu Shot; Not all it's cracked up to be?

Link to a story on: Vaccine for Everyone (Universal Flu Vaccine)

"A report out of Canada last week reveals that two of the three strains (Soloman Islands A, Wisconsin A, Malaysia B) selected by doctors at the World Health Organization and the CDC for North America "appear to be drifting and mutating, raising questions about how much protection this year's flu vaccine will offer." ARTICLE LINK The Public Health Agency of Canada reports that the Wisconsin strain has already mutated into a different form than is contained in the vaccine and the Malaysia strain is also showing signs of mutating. This is similar to what happened in the 2003-2004 flu season when there was a mismatch of circulating flu strains with the ones selected for the flu vaccine. ARTICLE 2 LINK

So just how effective will the flu shot be at preventing death and illness from the flu this year, especially for children, the chronically ill and the elderly?

Probably not any more effective than it has ever been, which is not very effective according to yet another study in the medical literature ( Lancet Infect Dis. 2007;7:658-666). The Lancet reported this month that the elderly over age 70, who have always been targeted for flu vaccination because they account for 90 percent of all flu related deaths, may not be protected at all from dying from complications of the flu. Flu vaccine use by the elderly and those with chronic diseases has increased from 15% to 65% in the US and other high-income countries since 1980 but there has been no decrease in influenza-related mortality among these groups. The few clinical trials that have included elderly people have indicated there is a decrease in antibody responses and clinical benefits of flu vaccination as people age beyond 70 years.

This new report reinforces an analysis of flu vaccine clinical trials published last year in the British Medical Journal by Cochrane Collaboration researchers POLICY vs. EVIDENCE The 2006 Cochrane Collaboration analysis found that the majority of published influenza vaccine studies were methodologically flawed with selection biases, cofounders and heavy reliance on non-randomized studies. Authors pointed out that potential confusion between respiratory infections caused by flu viruses and those caused by non-flu viruses can result in a misdiagnosis and gross overestimation of the true impact of influenza on death and illness in a given flu season (CDC officials have never produced documented evidence for the 36,000 deaths they attribute to the flu every year).

The 2006 study concluded that too few clinical trials have been conducted to prove flu vaccine safety and current evidence indicates that use of inactivated influenza vaccine has only a modest or no effect on preventing flu in children or the elderly. Co-author Tom Jefferson, an Italian epidemiologist said "There is a big gap between policies promoting annual influenza vaccinations for most children and adults and supporting scientific evidence."

UPDATE!

Happy Holidays to my beloved Listeners! I hope this holiday season has been treating you well.

Ours got off to a rocky start but is slowly becoming a little more healthy.
We started the night before Thanksgiving with the stomach flu. This morphed into a sinus trouble. Everyone got better except for Malachi and me. Then Malachi had a week of 105 degree fevers. He came out of those last Monday and by Wednesday night, Asher had a whopper of a fever. On Thursday, Lydia joined him. By yesterday, Asher was feeling better and poor Lydia worse. She had contracted herpes-I when she was little, I actually think one of her grandparents gave her a kiss while they had a coldsore and now whenever she gets a repressed immune system she breaks out. She was also presenting with terrible bad breath, a white coated tongue and general malaise. We did decide to visit the Naval Hospital last night and she, in fact, has strep throat. She was a brave trooper and didn't even cry getting a shot in her behind. She's been sleeping all day today and I hope this is the last bout with the sickies we'll have to endure this year.

We have stepped up our nutrition routine. We've been taking liquid vitamin C, collodial silver, apple cider vinegar and raw honey and trying desperately to eat a lot more raw foods.

We are looking forward to Christmas! We'll be going to visit family in Central Kentucky and Southern Ohio.

What does all of this mean for the podcast!? Well, after the new year we will have a wonderful new episode about childbirth education and maybe even a surprise show.

So stay tuned!

Episode # 016 - The Work At Home Mom (WAHM) Holiday Review

Nadine reviews several work-at-home-mom wares just in time for the holiday season.

Episode #016 Show Notes

The Barefoot Moms Podcast Work and Home Mom Holiday Review Show Notes

Jewelry by Rachelle

http://www.hyenacart.com/jewelrybyrachelle

"I make handmade jewelry using a variety of beads, pendants and metals. I have been in this business for about a year and really enjoy making one of a kind pieces that make a statement. I try to use my creativity in a way that is beautiful and displays my personality. I also sew purses and bags, hair wraps, and other accessories. I have recently started sewing diapers and right now they are in the testing stage and will soon hit the market! I have realized that I am rather crafty and enjoy working with all sorts of mediums. I have made chalkboards, wreaths, flower arrangements, stenciled, and lots of other stuff. My dream is to one day open my own store front that will promote natural living as well as WAHM made items. Keep a look out and remember me as one day, I will be a household name.

I also want to give kudos to a great resource: www.diapertraders.com. This is a great community of mama's who are very willing to help weather you cloth diaper or not. They are full of love and support for anyone! They have helpful info on everything from organic/natural living, to potty training, to breastfeeding, to teenage years! Come join us!"

"I am Kayli, and new to the SAH/WAHM scene. I was an import/export coordinator before the birth of our second son in October of 2006. I have my BA in International Relations and speak 5 languages fluently… so I really didn’t plan on staying home, I planned on a career, but I couldn’t stand the thought of both my kiddos in daycare. My husband is in the military, so much of the time I'm also doing things on my own. We started cloth diapering in 2005 after our first son was born because it was difficult for me to make runs to the store after a long day of work with no husband home and raising our little guy. By the time our son was about 6 months, he started letting me know through cues when he needed to go to the bathroom- rather than sit and wait to change a diaper, I decided just to take him to the potty. I had no idea that there was such a thing as "Elimination Communication" or even that our style of parenting had a name (Attached Parenting); all I knew is that it worked well
for us. As a parent, I felt/feel that nekkie time is vital for a child... it really doesn't seem healthy for any child to be bundled in clothing or a diaper all of the time- skin needs time to breath, and children need time to explore themselves- I've also found that with both boys movement is much easier without a diaper on... first rolls were always whilst nekkie and first crawls too!

How Nekkie Blankie™ Came About:

With such factors as nursing, co-sleeping with two big babies whom never quite fit any diaper right (hence many leaks), topped with EC misses, we went through a LOT of soaked towels and blankets (not to mention beds and carpets!). One day I got tired of changing the sheets and washing them daily, on top of a load of towels for tummy nekkie time with our youngest who hadn't started ECing yet. I asked around on the EC circuit what mommies were using for a night time solution... felted wool in a pillowcase. I have nothing against this method, but it wasn't for us. Pillowcases stay wet, and I was tired of wetness everywhere! So, I set out on a journey to come up with a solution. After trying literally over 50 different wicking materials, I found one that works, and works well! To top it off, the material didn't have the 'problems' that come along with the wicking materials commonly used in pocket diapers- no pilling, no staining, and no need for stripping. After trying several different
prototypes, the Nekkie Blankie™ was born. You may ask, why an insert? Why not just a single blanket? The reason for this is twofold. First, with a removable insert, the blankie dries much faster, wasting much less time and energy than with a one piece blankie. Second, the blankie is able to be adapted as the family's needs change- for example, a precrawler uses the Nekkie Blankie™ for nekkie time and mommy uses it at night for nursing leaks... as the baby grows and starts the potty training/potty learning process, the blankie is able to be adapted for a heavy wetter by adding insert material into the middle layer (and yes, you can use a bath towel, but the wickability of the blankie is at its best when it is used with a super absorbent material as the insert, such as diaper twill or microterry).

How I started the business:

After making a blanket that solved so many problems for us, I checked around and found that no one was offering a similar product that is reusable (the closest thing would be disposable bed pads and that just seemed icky to me). I had a patent search done, and nothing came up close on that either, so I filed for Patent Pending status on the blanket.

What I love:

I love staying home with my little guys! I love to sew; I love to be able to share an innovative product with people. I love not getting up to drive an hour in bumper to bumper traffic to go and talk to someone on the other side of the world and argue about container shipments.

What I offer:

An affordable handmade product that is versatile and has many uses including:

Nekkie Time!!!
Changing pad
Nursing mamas to sleep on
Leaky night diapers
Elimination Communication night time pad - no more felted wool in pillow cases!
Potty training night pad
After bath wrap
Nursing nekkie
Postpartum pad
Homebirthing pad

I even had one of my customers mention that she used it as an infant seat cover when she had to take her baby out in the rain and it worked like a charm! It's also a great gift for "cloth encouragement"... many moms ask what they can do to encourage friends to use cloth, and since the blankie is washed just like a cloth diaper and the same cuddly material used in many cloth diapers, it exemplifies how simple cloth diapering can be without the expense of buying a friend an entire supply of cloth dipes. The price of Nekkie Blankie™ is low because I want to keep the product accessible to everyone. In the coming month, I will also be offering wholesale to other WAHM business."

"A couple of months ago, I was trying to come up with a WAHM business
of my own and decided to offer this service and give people the opportunity
to give a unique personal gift that will last a lifetime. Each picture is
unique and not merged. Sometimes I can even get a few seagulls to cooperate
for me!

What I love about it:

Well first off, I love my "office"! The beach is so beautiful and calming
to me so I can't complain other than I wish I lived there. But maybe one
day! LOL Second, I love that it gives others the opportunity to give a
unique gift and the possibilities are endless. You can give one for a
birthday, anniversary, Valentines, etc. You can announce you're pregnant or
propose...I can't wait to do one of these. There's much more you can do or
say but it's just too long to list but you get the idea! Third, it makes me
feel good to be able to earn some money of my own. And the last thing that
I love is when the client tells me how much they love the picture and how
much the person who received it loved it. It really makes me feel good and
confident that I'm offering a service that people really appreciate and
love."

Panda Tushies

http://pandatushies.com/

"Panda Tushies was born from a couple different ideas. The first was our love for the natural bamboo fibers to make our sons diapers out of. The second was plain necessity of items that we wanted to purchase and either could not find or could not afford, so I began making them. After some time I decided there may be other families out there that would like the same opportunities. I want to be able to provide each family with items that are natural and helpful.

Panda Tushies has items for children of all ages, from baby items such as burp cloth sets, towel sets, binky blankys, and toys to pretend play items such as doll slings and kitchen sets for the older kids. I take great pride in each item we make or carry. I want to allow you to purchase premade items at a reasonable price, but also want to allow each person to flex their creative ability. That's why we will be offering fabrics and diapering supplies very soon. In our store you will find a wide range of items.

Binky Blankys: Made in 2 sizes, a travel size 13x13" and a fill size 36x30". Each blanket is made of a very soft fabric on one side and is backed in an equally soft fabric. These blankys feature a snapping ribbon to allow you to attach a binky on one end. Travel sizes also boast of an additional snap on the opposite end to allow you to attach a travel toy or secure the blanky to a shopping cart or stroller.

Apron Sets: Each set includes a child size apron and a Bambu Kid's in the Kitchen set.

Towel Sets: Includes an oversized 30x36" towel made of a colorful flannel print and backed in a wonderful bamboo inner fabric to wrap baby in. This set also includes 6 washcloths made of coordinating flannel on one side and bamboo or sherpa on the other.

Pillow Sets: Inclue a travel sized blanky and a super soft minkee pillow.

Doll Slings: Completely reversible and allow your little one to carry their precious cargo everywhere they go, just like you do!Coming very soon: Bamboo Terry prefolds. These are currently in the testing fase and we hope to have them ready to be purchased by early next year. These will be completely snappi friendly, for those like me."

Waddle Wades

http://www.waddlewades.com/

One of my friends got me in to cloth diapers that I met through a homeschooling group. I loved them so much but had trouble finding diapers that had enough absorption so I began making my own.MyAIOs are made with either terry or hemp soakers with microfleece or suedecloth linings to keep baby feeling dry (since PUL doesn't breathe) and prevent wicking. My fitteds are VERY customizable customers can choose their materials from pretty much anything I have on hand and exactly how they want their soaker, right down to the fold!

I am working on expanding my line to include mama pads, post partum pads made with very absorbant hemp, cloth wipes, mei tai carriers, and a line of cloth for dolls (diapers, carriers, etc.) I take pride in my work and every diaper I make. I also hold a myself to high standards when it comes to my customer service and I will work with everybody to come to some kind of solution. Who knows what the future holds for Waddle Wades! I have so much fun sewing, and that's what matters the most to me, the fun in doing it.

Question CPD!

Cephalopelvic disproportion refers to a mismatch (disproportion) between the size of the baby's head (cephalo) and the space available within the mother's pelvis (pelvic). (Childbirth International)

True CPD is very rare!

Usually it only occurs if the mother has had a pelvis damaging accident or was malnourished as a child.

"Cephalopelvic Disproportion is vastly overdiagnosed. Here are the stories of a few women who were told their babies were too big for their pelvises by one care provider, but fortunately sought a second opinion and subsequently birthed an even BIGGER baby through that same "small" pelvis.
VBAC = vaginal birth after cesarean
HBAC = homebirth after cesarean
HBA3C = homebirth after 3 cesareans
UBA2C = unassisted birth after 2 cesareans "

Helping Others for the Holidays

Okay, I have a friend who's daughter is a REAL miracle.

She was a stillborn at birth and was brought back to life. She had all kinds of problems, but her mama worked really hard with her and she didn't miss a milestone until after her 7 month VACCINATIONS. Now she has some signs of cerebral palsy and has very low tone on her right side. Her mama and dad are trying to raise some money to get her the alternative treatments that will help her.

So, if you would like to get some great gifts for your people and help out a beautiful little girl. Check out this link:

Help Madolyn!

you can also help by purchasing great diapers from her mamas store, Waddle Wades, http://www.waddlewades.com/ all purchases will be placed towards Madolyn's medical expenses. If you would like to just donate a few bucks please go here to do so: http://www.waddlewades.com/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=34

And just to show you how cool these dipes are here is Malachi in his new festive snowman dipe!

Thanks Waddle Wades!

Bummers...

Looks like the Gators are going to lose or have lost already. I turned the game off because, I hate watching us lose. lol I'm a little too passionate.

We also got a yucky review in iTunes. And that's okay. Because you can't please everyone. I would like to touch on the comments made however.

First and foremost, I would like to state to everyone that we are experts. We're experts of the natural family living of OUR family. Besides, we never said we were experts, we're just trying to do our best! The podcast is about sharing the things that we have learned so that everyone from the crunchiest to the most mainstream can get something out of it.

I truly am sorry if you can't see past the fact that I covered my first child with a blanket when I was 19 years old and nursing and in mixed company. I was just learning how to do it and I really didn't want my father in law seeing my breast.

Also, yes, I do shop at Walmart. I am not a total separatist crunchanaut. I can't do it. Not be a stay at home mom and not get a few things from Walmart. And if that drives you away from the podcast then I'm sorry.

I hate Walmart...but I won't buy Rice Milk for $4 a half gallon when I can get it for $2.75 Unless I want to put my kids in public school and daycare...and that would be silly.

so anyways. yuck.

I'm going now to make some yummy stir fry with noodles and egg rolls! Sounds like a good ending to a roller coaster day.

Thanks for listening!

Hoorah WaterBirth

Water births 'a valuable alternative' to normal delivery
Source:

European Journal of Obstetrics and Reproductive Biology 2007; 134: 37-43

Comparing maternal and fetal outcomes with water births versus conventional delivery.

MedWire News: Women who choose a water birth tend to have quicker, less painful labors and do not put themselves or their babies at increased risk for infection or other complications.

The findings come from a prospective observational study involving 368 pregnant women. All had a low risk for obstetric and maternal complications and were deemed eligible for a water birth.

In the event, 89 delivered their babies in the pool, 133 used the pool temporarily but had a conventional birth, and 146 delivered spontaneously without immersion.

The study authors, led by Rosanna Zanetti-Daellenbach (Women's University Hospital, Basel, Switzerland), compared the three groups with respect to obstetric outcomes.

They found no differences in rates of maternal or neonatal infection or laboratory parameters. Fetal outcomes were also comparable among the groups, with no differences in Apgar scores, blood pH, and admission to intensive care.

Some maternal outcomes differed, however, with the water-birth group having significantly less use of analgesia, shorter first and second stages of labor, and lower rates of episiotomy.

"Water birth is a valuable alternative to traditional delivery," say the authors. "A careful selection of a low-risk collective is essential to minimize potential risks."

Our Purpose

I just wanted to make this quite clear to all of our listeners.

We in NO way feel that we are superior to others by the choices that we make. We have made choices in our lives that were less optimal for our families and now that we have educated ourselves, have found better ones and choose to pursue that path. All of the contributors to the BFM podcast certainly don't do everything the same and we love each other all the same.

If you don't breastfeed(which I didn't with my first but for three months) or you clean your house with toxic chemicals (which I might do on occasion), or you even put paper and chemicals next to your children's genitals (which I also might do on occasion) that's on you, not us. We just want you to know that there are other options out there, and sometimes they work better; not only for you, but for the environment and others around you.

On a personal note, some of the things that we post, we don't practice. One huge example, Elimination Communication, it's interesting but I, Nadine, don't do this with my children.

So, all of this to say, no one is perfect, but the more information we have the more informed we can be and the better we can make our lives.

Thanks for listening!

Mom of the Week: Rachael

My name is Rachael I am 22 years old and I have 2 beautiful children Chloe 16 months born 4-08-06 and Adam 2 months born 5-27-07. They were not planned but they are very loved. I am engaged with no intentions of marriage, we dont need a piece of paper to declare our love. Not to mention we are cheap lol.

I am kinda in to attachment parenting. I breast feed, co-sleep, baby wear, toddler wear, try not to let them CIO, and no spanking.

I am a SAHM for now I will be going back to school next Aug, I want to be a 2nd grade teacher. I have always been in to trying to help the environment since I was very young but I just this year took some big steps. We are slowly changing our sposies to cloth and our shopping bags to cloth as well. I no longer use chemical's to clean. I use vinegar and baking soda for all my cleaning, and sometimes I add in some EO's. Barefoot mamas rock!!!

Thanks for listening Rachael!

Mom of the Week: Amanda

Get to know our MOTW this week; Amanda:

I'm a wife to my dearest and best friend Matthew and am a stay-at-home mom to my wonderful children Allysha and Jonathan. As I ponder my life I see that I have been so blessed. We have a wonderful family and a great home. We are a bible believing family and try to be what the Lord would have us to be.

I try to be as natural as possible while staying without our budget which at times can be somewhat daunting. My journey into this started in 2001 when I got so sick, even the meds wouldn't help. The only thing the doctor's could prescribe me was over $100 and being a single mom at the time, I simply could not afford it. I approached a fellow co-worker whom everyone knew to be a "natural nut". She introduced me to Echinacea and Myrrh and thank the Lord my fever broke and my infection passed. Next we moved on to ear candles. I was hooked. Ever since then I try to find natural remedies for me and my family, while still using some western medicine, although now not nearly as much. We firmly believe in prevention.

I have journeyed on to study aromatherapy briefly and hope to one day have more education in not only that, but in herbalism. I'm currently thinking of writing books to teach children about herbs while making the reading material fun and easy to understand.

Someday we hope to homestead "out in the middle of nowhere" but for now we're doing our best where we are now to plant as many herbs and medicinal plants as possible while teaching our children about living off the land and nature itself.

A BIG thanks needs to go out to Barefoot Moms for doing the segment on cleaning with vinegar and baking soda. We were using other natural products and while they were good products, they are currently going up in price which made this was a GREAT alternative. Not only is it super cheap but it makes everything sparkle.

As far as the crunchy factor, we're in there somewhere. LOL! We use our own cloth shopping bags, cloth napkins and towels and try to eat organic. We believe in using midwifery care for pregnancy over anything else. We co-sleep, use slings, use Natural Family Planning, and do not vaccinate. We're also a homeschooling family and have been officially doing this for 4 full years and we're moving into our 5th year. It's one of the most wonderful things in the world.

If you'd like to visit my homepage it can be found at mandikaake.com I also have a natural site at naturalliving.mandikaake.com and my business website can be found at BabyKaakes.com

Thanks for listening Amanda!!!

New cover art & a WAHM-ware

Melanie at Messages in the Sand graciously created this awesome message for us (which we've also cropped for use as our cover art).

Please take a few minutes and check out her website: http://www.messagesinthesand.net/. Here is her bio:

Short Bio:

My name is Melanie. I am a 31 year old SAHM from Statesboro, GA. I have two children: Nathan (4) and Grace (18 mos.). Nathan was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Diorder when he was about 2.5 and Grace is very sleep challenged and has been since she was a few weeks old. Needless to say, I think I'm finished having kids. *giggle It will be 6 years on July 28th for me and my husband, Jon. He is 30 and a great husband and father!

What I do:

Customized Sand Messages. My business is called "Messages in the Sand".

Why I do what I do:

A couple of years ago, someone told me about a lady who did this. I was searching for a Valentine's present for my hubby and I thought "what an awesome idea!" However, as I looked more into it, it was realized that she had taken one really beautiful picture and would use it for all her pics by merging this picture with the sand message picture. For me personally, I didn't like that. It just didn't feel authentic to me. It then dawned on me that I am only an hour away from the beach and I could do one myself! Needless to say, my husband loved it and just thought it was the best gift ever. A couple of months ago, I was trying to come up with a WAHM business of my own and decided to offer this service and give people the opportunity to give a unique personal gift that will last a lifetime. Each picture is unique and not merged. Sometimes I can even get a few seagulls to cooperate for me! What I love about it:Well first off, I love my "office"! The beach is so beautiful and calming to me so I can't complain other than I wish I lived there. But maybe oneday! LOL Second, I love that it gives others the opportunity to give a unique gift and the possibilities are endless. You can give one for a birthday, anniversary, Valentines, etc. You can announce you're pregnant or propose...I can't wait to do one of these. There's much more you can do or say but it's just too long to list but you get the idea! Third, it makes me feel good to be able to earn some money of my own. And the last thing that I love is when the client tells me how much they love the picture and how much the person who received it loved it. It really makes me feel good and confident that I'm offering a service that people really appreciate and love."

Thanks again Melanie!

(BTW, this was posted by Nadine's husband, James. I'm the primary producer of the podcast and I really enjoy helping the BFMs spread their natural living message.)

MOM OF THE WEEK!

Our very first mom of the week is

Cate:

My name is Cate, and I am a full-time graduate student working on a research grant which allows me to be a WOHM mom 2 days a week, and a SAHM the rest of the time. I blog as "The Hot Librarian" at http://hotlibrariansarentamyth.blogspot.com. I started the blog not anticipating pregnancy, but before we knew it our daughter Eva was on her way! Eva is 8 months old now, and the blog has evolved to charting my journey through motherhood as I try to be the best mom I can and live in an environmentally friendly way. We use cloth diapers, and I've taken baby steps into mama cloth. We buy as much organic and local produce as we can, and I frequently prepare vegan meals. We recycle and compost, try to buy used and recycled goods, and choose reusable options for napkins and paper towels. Thanks to Nadine and Molly's podcast, we now clean our house with vinegar - and what a difference! For me, the most important message to spread is that nobody's perfect, and it's okay if you can't be 100% SuperCrunchyMom all the time. The key is to do what you can and what works for your family. It's better to do just a little bit than nothing at all because every little change we make has a positive impact on our children and our earth.

Thanks for listening to BFM, Cate!
